History of the “Peps” brand
Peps Industries or "Peps" as it is fondly known, was started by a group of mattress industry veterans K.Madhavan, and his Partners G.Shankar Ram, and P. Manjunath who left their corporate jobs to start their own venture. They took over a defunct mattress factory in Coimbatore and tied up as a licensee of Restonic Inc, USA to become their partners in India. At that time, the industry was dominated by cotton and coir mattresses, with skepticism around the comfort and durability of spring mattresses.
Secret of Success?
As Indians we are used to relatively firmer mattress. Peps launch their most affordable Bonnell Spring mattress range – Springkoil which is relatively firm and was an instant hit in term of visual finish and price in comparison to Rubberized coir mattresses in the market. Also the comfort and support offered was significantly superior in comparison to the Coir mattresses.
Quality Difference?
The tieup with Restonic gave access to the latest technology in the mattress industry. The mattresses using the “Restonic” tag were manufactured to meet a minimum preset quality standard. This made Peps mattresses to stand out from the numerous Indian mattress brands.
From its humble roots, Peps is now a Rs.325 crore turnover company, and a leading mattress brand in India, with 600 employees, and 6,000 retail dealers, and a 56 per cent market share of spring mattresses in India.
